Acts 23 records the trail and imprisonment of Paul in Jerusalem then in Caesarea. Paul isn’t read his Miranda rights. He’s not furnished with an attorney. So he has to speak for himself. He starts off by saying, that he has lived his life with a clear conscience. What know where I am but I’m not here…

He is currently talking to a group of religious leaders. Whatever Paul says upsets them and the order is giving to hit Paul in the mouth.

And when it was day, a group of Jews came together and made a pact that they would not that they would not eat or drink until they killed Paul. (vv. 12, 13). I don’t have time to cover this, but I can tell you they had been trying to kill Paul since he got started.

They tried to beat him to death, that didn’t work. The Sanhedrin tried to create a conspiracy, he survived that. After those two defeats, they did not go off in the corner and pout and throw in the towel. They increased their determination and created a kangaroo court.
The enemies of Paul were not always the exact same people but they always had the same exact spirit. They tried in Damascus. They tried in Jerusalem. They tried in Iconium. They tried in Lystra. They tried in Greece. Whenever you encounter anything this often, and in this many spaces, it’s a spiritual attack. There is a spirit assigned to you.

This trial goes against Paul, all the way in to Acts chapter 26:28 where he eventually gets a hearing with the king Agrippa

And Agrippa says Paul, you make me want to become a Christian.

In this themed Month of “Protection”, understand that no matter how many times they tried to kill Paul they couldn’t do it. God protected him in every prison because his ultimate goal was to use Paul’s situation to get him to the place where king Agrippa and Rome could hear the gospel.
