In a heartfelt conversation about her new book, The Necessary Woman, Dr. Plummer opens up about the divine inspiration behind her writing — a message she believes God is urgently speaking to women today.
As she shared, the idea for the book came during a time of reflection on the state of our world — the brokenness, the pain, and the disconnection within families. “The Lord spoke to me,” she said. “He said, ‘I need my women.’ Throughout history, in every crisis, God has raised up women to stand strong, to nurture, and to heal. He’s calling us again.”
What Is a Necessary Woman?
A “necessary woman,” as Dr. Plummer explains, is one who knows who she is in God. She’s not in competition with men or other women. She understands her value, her wisdom, and her divine role as a nurturer and a builder — both in her family and in the Kingdom of God.
“It’s not about fighting,” she said. “It’s about walking side by side. God didn’t take woman from man’s foot or his back — He took her from his side. We’re meant to walk together.”
Biblical Inspiration
The conversation turned to powerful women of the Bible — Deborah, Esther, and even Rahab — each a woman who rose in faith and courage when her people needed her most.
Deborah, a prophetess and judge, showed wisdom and leadership when men were too afraid to fight. Esther risked her life to save her people. And Rahab, once labeled a harlot, used her faith to protect God’s servants.
“These women were all necessary,” Dr. Plummer reminded. “They each had a role, a strategy, a purpose — just like we do today.”
A Message for Today’s Women
The call of The Necessary Woman goes beyond the church walls. Dr. Plummer insists that this movement is for women everywhere — from the White House to the crack house — because every woman has something inside her that God wants to awaken.
“It’s time to come home,” she urged. “It’s time for us to heal, to find our voice, and to stand up. We need women who will birth again — birth vision, birth love, birth healing.”
Her granddaughter, who also joined the conversation, shared how her own creative gifts — writing, design, humor, and compassion — have become part of that same legacy. “Even in my pain, I create things that make people smile,” she said. “That’s how God works through me.”
Passing the Torch
Dr. Plummer sees this book as more than a publication — it’s a generational assignment. She believes the seeds she planted through prayer and faith are now growing through her children and grandchildren. “Somebody has to be the necessary one to plant the seeds,” she said.
Before closing, she gave this charge directly to women everywhere:
“This book isn’t just mine — it’s God’s. It’s an end-time message, a mandate like Esther’s. If you don’t answer the call, someone else will. But God is still calling. He’s saying, ‘I need my women.’ So, let’s come back into the birthing room and do what we were made to do.”
